My story
My practice is a reflection on both my professional past, which incorporated fashion, my love of art, textiles, and architecture as well as influences from my childhood. I would spend many hours outdoors, using my imagination either by the sea or in the countryside surrounded by nature with all its gifts and joys.
Creating with clay makes me ever more aware of the multiple loves and influences that are a part of me. It also keeps me in the moment and not distracted by the never-ending issues within our troubled world.
I am influenced by the natural world. The venation pattern on leaves, the myriad shapes of lichen and moss, the furrows of rotting bark, water lapping over stones, volcanic matter and rock formations are at the foundation of my practice and my love of architecture often inspires my shapes and forms.
I work with different clay bodies and some pieces reflect the need to control, to guide and be the director of my work; others reflect the way life always amazes and surprises me, because with clay you never know what will emerge from the kiln.
